Relax into breastfeeding
Each new mom’s circumstances are different, and they help her decide on whether to breastfeed or bottle feed her newborn. Whatever she chooses, the hours cuddling her little one while feeding are a most precious part of motherhood.
While breastfeeding is nature’s provision, it may not come naturally to mom or baby at first. Pre‐delivery, talking to your doctor and midwife about starting breastfeeding soon after delivery, and advice from breastfeeding
specialists can help. The La Leche League provides advice from experienced moms.
If things don’t go smoothly, it’s worth remembering:
- The more milk that is removed by frequent feeding or pumping, the more the body makes.
- Mom should drink at least 1 to 2 litres of liquid a day.
- Stock the fridge with nutritious, easy-to-prepare food. A breastfeeding mom can use 300 to 500 more calories a day than a non‐breastfeeding woman!
- To underpin her nutritional intake, she can use the same nutritional shake she enjoyed during pregnancy. Mom2B Pregnancy Shakes are packed with proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. Quick and easy to mix with water or milk, they can be taken once or twice a day. In yummy chocolate delight, velvet vanilla and saucy strawberry flavours, they are the No 1 Pregnancy Shake in South Africa.
Three readers can each win a hamper valued at R1 500 containing Mom2B Pregnancy shakes and a R500 Sorbet voucher for a beauty treatment of your choice. To enter, simply fill in the form below. Entries close 31 August at 11pm.
