What to pack in your multiples’ hospital bag

Mom of twins Martine Hendricks offers some tried-and-tested advice on what to pack in your hospital bag when you’re giving birth to two or more babies.


It’s never too early to get this sorted – rather planned and packed than spinning when the big day happens.

These are guided quantities for twins and triplets

The basics:

  • Disposable nappies                  x3 newborn packs
  • Wet wipes                                 x3 packs sensitive/fragrance-free
  • Body vests                                x8 long and short sleeves
  • Sleeveless vest                         x6 100% cotton
  • Leggings                                   x8 100% cotton
  • Babygros                                  x8 100% cotton
  • Thick fleece babygros              x3
  • Caps                                        x4 cotton
  • Socks                                       x6 pairs
  • Towels                                       x1 for each baby
  • Receiver Blankets                     x6
  • Fleece Blankets                         x3 for the homecoming

Toiletry essentials:

  • Earbuds
  • Cotton balls
  • Olive Oil
  • Soft face cloths
  • Aqueous cream
  • Cloth nappies (use as burping cloths)
  • Box of tissues
  • Disposable nappy sacks

Oh and just in case:…

  • Baby bottles
  • Pacifiers
  • Formula

Remember: These are just guidelines and the things you will need in any event or circumstance once at the hospital. Don’t worry about the extras – your partner or a family member can always go home or to the store should you run out of anything.
