You’ve probably seen the quote “A baby is never a mistake. A surprise sometimes, but never a mistake.” Whether you and your partner were planning to start a family or your little one was a surprise, sharing the news should be a special occasion. We share some of our favourite pregnancy announcements to help you announce the happy news.
Surprise him with a personalised mug
If your partner’s morning routine includes having a cuppa before heading out, a personalised coffee mug with the words, “You’re going to be a daddy!” will set the tone for the day ahead.
Head to the bookstore
If you’re an avid reader, your partner won’t suspect a thing when you ask him to accompany you to the bookshop. Head to the baby section and calmly hand him a book on fatherhood. This is a good buy, because the book will come in handy as he navigates this eventful chapter.
Not that you needed an excuse to go shopping, but your partner’s reaction will make the shopping expedition rewarding. You’re only trying to tell him that you’re pregnant, so a onesie with the words “Daddy’s mini me” will do.
Your team is expanding, so what better way to tell your partner than by having the announcement printed on his favourite T-shirt! You can send him a text saying “a new player will be joining our team.” And follow it up with a T-shirt with the words “Baby01”.
Wrap it up
Write the words “Bun in the oven” on your tummy using lipstick and wear a wrap-around dress. Send him a text saying “I can’t wait for you to unwrap your gift when you get home.” He won’t believe his eyes when he realises what’s in store for him.
Better by the sea
If you live in a coastal area, go to the beach and write your names in the sand, followed by “…and baby makes three.”
Buy a cute little plate and place it on the dinner table. Tell your partner that a special guest will be joining you in the coming months. You can use chocolate sauce to write the words “Baby loading…” on the plate.
Take a trip down memory lane
Gift him with a photo album of your best moments together and surprise him with a scan of the baby, with the caption “The best is yet to come”.
Have fun with it
If you have access to his phone, change his ring tone to the sound of a crying baby and call him in the middle of the night. When he gets up to answer, simply pat him on the back and say “Brace yourself, honey”.
Surprise pregnancy test
Get him a congratulations card with the pregnancy test inside saying “You’re going to be a dad!”
We asked our Living and Loving readers how they shared the happy news. Here’s what they said:

If you love coffee, this idea from Shelly Watkinson is super cute.
“I printed a baby grow with the message, ‘You better sit down’, put it in a gift box and gave it to the grandparents! And then afterwards I put a photo on Facebook for our friends.” – Natasja Grobler
“With our second baby, we put our first in a suitcase holding a sign ‘Mommy 1988, daddy 1984, big brother 2015, baby to be 2016’ and sent the photo to everyone.” – Jaerdine Venter Bailey
And our favourite announcement…. this super cute Baby Shark Video from Tarryn Patel
