Recent studies by the Child Mind Institute have revealed the benefits of spending time outdoors both for kids and adults. The study shows that kids who play outside are smarter, happier, more attentive, and less anxious than kids who spend more time indoors. So, while screen time is the easier, and often more popular way to keep kids occupied while you catch up with work or the chores, it’s important to set aside time for outdoor play where you and your little ones can engage in fun, stimulating activities.
Join the Pramathon at Val Bonne Country Estate
If you live in the Johannesburg area and would like to get out into nature with your little one, head to the beautiful Val Bonne Country Estate in the Modderfontein Nature Reserve on Sunday, 5 May for the first regional family Pramathon. Just a 20-minute drive from Sandton, it will feel like you’re going on a mini holiday from the hustle of city life.
The event kickstarts with a chilled 3km pram walk in support of Cotlands (do bring your old baby clothes for donation). The route is mostly flat, some of it on tarred surface and the other half on level grass and sand, but if you need help or even encouragement, baby valets will be on hand to help.
Older siblings, godparents, and even granny and grandpa, can join in the fun, too. There will be lots of games and prizes up for grabs including ‘Best Dressed Pram’, and medals will be awarded for each pram crossing the finishing line.
Registration starts from 8am and the pram walk will start at 10am sharp.
Afterwards you can enjoy a full day of family entertainment with live music, craft food and beverages, market stores, and much more. Hosted by Clamber Club, experts in children’s entertainment and therapeutic movement, the kids will love playing on age-appropriate equipment in a beautiful big play area while you relax on the sprawling lawns.
Tickets are available here. The cost is R250 per Pram and Pusher; R120 per accompanying adult; R60 per child ages 6 to 12. Kids 5 years and under get in free.
