One of the first signs of pregnancy is an acne breakout that’s caused by the changing hormone levels. According to Dr Bradley Wagemaker, aesthetic medical doctor and medical director at Lamelle Research Laboratories, “More than one out of every two pregnant women can expect to develop acne.”
The worst breakouts appear during the first trimester, where the higher hormone levels increase the skin’s production of its natural oils.
“While acne is common during pregnancy, it’s hard to predict who will and won’t develop this side-effect. If you don’t develop acne during the first trimester, it’s unlikely you’ll have breakouts that are out of the ordinary during the second or third trimesters,” says Dr Wagemaker.
