When it comes to inspiration for bump, or baby-friendly fashion, it might be time to emulate that famous ‘Markle sparkle’. Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry have been lighting up the country as part of their royal visit – the Duchess ‘serving’ South Africa a series of special looks. From the striped dress for the British High Commissioner reception and the olive-green belted dress in the Bo-Kaap to that periwinkle blue dress at the District Six Museum and the print wrap dress she wore to Nyanga Township, the Duchess opted for gorgeous, top-quality, but versatile outfits that multi-task just like she does.

“Throughout Meghan’s pregnancy journey, her wardrobe has been inspiring to watch with pieces similar to many maternity and post-maternity-wear items we have on site,” says Eloise van Heerden, Buying Manager for WW and Beauty at Superbalist.

“Our maternity collection is designed to be versatile with soft, quality fabrics that are light and gentle. We know moms are after clothes that can ‘grow’ with their bump and make the jump to being elegant nursing wear,” she adds. “Meghan’s wrap dress is a perfect example of an item that does this with ease. We have various wrap dresses and wrap-style jumpsuits that are similar – designed to adjust to every stage of your pregnancy and after your baby arrives.”

Unlike the Duchess, most moms don’t have a style team on-hand, which can make finding the time and energy to shop an issue sometimes. “We are focused on bringing our expectant moms not only a range of essential basics, but also trend-relevant items so they feel like they can keep their personal style.”

Eloise recommends the following key essential staples:

“Meghan reuses her favourite pieces, which goes to show just how some classics are simply irreplaceable. We want to make moms feel special in exceptionally crafted items that nod to trends and transcend these. Affordable pieces you can wear time and again. Our classic looks are appropriate for all occasions – work, gatherings with friends, or having your feet up at home – and they’re designed for summer, with breathable fabrics in whimsical shades,” says Eloise.
