5 fun things to do for kids in Gauteng this weekend

Many restaurants kids’ play areas are still closed due to COVID-19, but we found a couple of places that are open for play with strict hygiene practices in place.

Your kids are probably so over playing in their own garden and on their own swing set at home. Make the most of your Saturday or Sunday afternoon and take them to play at one of these fun places.

Benoni Monkey and Bird Park, Benoni  

Your little one will love the various birds, wildlife and monkeys. Enjoy something to eat and drink at the coffee shop while your tot blows of steam in the kids play area.

All children older than 3 years are required to wear a face mask at all times and social distancing rules apply at all times. Hand sanitiser stations are also located all around the park.

Willow Feather Farm, Irene

Willow Feather Farm has opened their tea garden as a ‘bring your own picnic park’. What does this mean? While they’ll still be serving takeaway cappuccinos, milkshakes, slush puppies, muffins and a few other snack items, you are allowed to take in your own food and drinks while the kids check out all the animals. The kiddies play areas are also open and will be sanitised throughout the day. They have tables and chairs where you can sit, or you can take your blanket and have a picnic on the grass.

Weekends:

  • Adults and kids – R70
  • Children under 1 – Free

Willow Feather Farm

Grootvaly Farmyard Drive-thru, Springs

Have some carrots and other veg you won’t be using in the fridge? Head on over to Grootvaly Farmyard to feed the animals. Family tractor rides, pony rides and a kiddie’s zip line will keep the kids entertained as well. Don’t forget your mask at home!

Grootvaly Farmyard

Out & About, Boksburg

Out & About is primarily a party venue for kids, but little ones can also just go to play for an hour or two while you have something to drink at the coffee shop. There are jungle gyms, a zip line and much more for your toddler to explore.

R50 per child (no booking required for walk-in customers)

Opening times:

Tuesday to Sunday from 9am to 5pm.

Out and about

Papachinos, Boksburg

Papachinos probably has one of the best play areas for kiddies. They have now opened their playgrounds, so you can take the kids this weekend for a delicious meal and some fun playtime. They have assured customers that very strict hygiene protocols are being put in place to keep little ones safe. Another cute safety measure they have put in place is hula hoops on the ground in the play areas to ensure kids understand social distancing.
