Baby teething rusks and ring biscuits

Give one of these treats to your little one to chew on when she’s teething.

Baby Teething Ring Biscuits

Please watch Baby carefully, as introducing solids always poses a choking risk. Other than that, these biscuits are great!

*Makes 12
Prep time: 10 minutes
Baking time: 20 – 30 minutes

  • 30 ml / 2 tablespoons butter, softened to room temperature
  • 120 ml / ½ cup castor sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 5 ml / 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 5ml / 1 teaspoon water
  • 370ml / 1 ½ cup baby cereal

  1. Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the egg and beat well for two minutes. Add the remaining dry ingredients and mix to form a dough
  2. Roll the dough out between two pieces of greaseproof paper, and use different sized cookie cutters to cut circles out of the dough.
  3. Place biscuits on a baking tray and refrigerate for 10 minutes
  4. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 20 – 30 minutes until crisp. Keep in an airtight container to prevent them from going soft.
  5. The mixture freezes well, whether it’s baked or unbaked.

Baby Teething Rusks

Although the texture is a little unusual, don’t be out off; these are scrumptious!

*Makes 12
Prep Time: 10 Minutes
Baking time: 20 – 30 minutes

  • 1 cup oats, ground to powder in a food processor
  • 1 cup baby cereal, any flavour
  • 3 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 1 egg
  • Approx. 1-2 tablespoons iced water

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  2. Whizz the oat flour, cereal, oil and egg in a food processor; this mixture will have a very crumbly texture. Tip out into a bowl and add enough water to shape the dough into a log.
  3. Dust the work surface with baby cereal, roll the login the cereal, and then cut the log into finger-sized pieces.
  4. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 20 – 30 minutes, until crispy and dry.

A mashed banana can be substituted for the egg. However, this mixture will be very gooey, so don’t use the iced water unless necessary.
