Breastfeeding diet

What’s on the menu?
For cramps or hiccups in a baby, moms may need more magnesium-rich foods like bananas, green veggies and nuts.
Mom’s iron supplements may cause cramps and constipation – dietary iron is far more digestible, and is found in green veggies, free-range eggs, nuts, raisins, other dried fruits, legumes and avocados.

If baby fusses at the breast, this may be due to a mom’s bland diet of dairy and grain products.
‘Bland’ is often the same as ‘highly allergenic’, with cramps, constipation, mucus and skin rashes resulting.

Skin rashes occur if mom has an acidic diet, rich in red meat, pickles and alcohol.

If a food or beverage causes discomfort in the mother, it may well do so in her baby. Beans, cabbage and onions are likely to lead to painful bloating, if taken in large quantities.

Stimulants like caffeine can make a baby wakeful and restless, leading to crying and colic.
