Newborn natter

Sometimes a breastfed baby will react to the mother's changing hormones with a little spotting of blood in the nappy – either from the bowel or as a vaginal discharge in little girls.
It’s mostly very slight, not continual, not serious, and will resolve in the first three months.

If you’re on hormonal contraceptives while breastfeeding, this too may lead to a little spotting.
You need to consider your options, should this continue, as the hormones are reaching the baby.
Some babies react to dairy and processed grain products in a breastfeeding mother's diet this way, too.
Formula-fed babies are more prone to irritation in the inner colon lining, as formula milk is never as easy to digest as breastmilk. Probiotic therapy may benefit some of these babies.
