The power of books
12:36 (GMT+2), Fri, 30 September 2011
One study by the US Commission on Reading shows that the mere presence of books in a home is sufficient to encourage a life-long reader. Books open up a world far beyond where we can take our children, with heroes far beyond those we can introduce to them in person. From the microscopic wonder of the cell to the macroscopic wonder of the galaxy, books invite the mind to a journey of discovery. No house can be a true learning home without books and without instilling a sense of honour and respect for the written word.
From a Learning House to a Learning Home
Whether it means having books in every room of the house, a box of blocks in the lounge, or a window sill on which to display the rocks, leaves and shells that were picked up on a nature walk, a home should honour all who live there. In whatever shape or form, embrace the signs of the inquisitive mind!
