Craniosacral Therapy

This is a non-invasive method of reviewing and improving the function of the Craniosacral System (the brain, spinal cord, fluid, membranes, bones and nerves in the nervous system). A patient is required to lie on a treatment table while the therapist "holds" whichever part of the body that requires treatment, with a light non-invasive touch. Donavan Hean, chairpman of the Craniosacral Therapy Association of South Africa, explains: "Using touch which is no heavier than about 5 to 30 grams, the therapist monitors the Craniosacral Rhythm at key body points to locate the source of obstruction or stress. Once the source has been determined, they can assist the natural movement of the fluid and related soft tissue to support the body to self-correct. Craniosacral therapy supports the endocrine system to naturally return to harmony, which will resolve hormone-related issues."

Wendy Nell, a CST therapist from Durban, says that patients with PND can respond to the therapy after just one session (ranging from 45 to 90 minutes), while others may require four to five sessions. Therapists don't prescribe medication unless they're qualified in other complementary fields.
