What happens at each scheduled visit to the paediatrician?
The doctor will check whether you have any concerns about your baby, particularly whether he is achieving his milestones and growth potential.
He or she will then discuss your baby’s diet, his routine, how much he eats, his weight, and whether you’ve weaned him off the breast (if he was breastfed), and whether or not he is starting on solids.
He or she will mostly likely ask about your child’s sleep habits – if you haven’t already mentioned it as one of the most challenging problems you are facing, and whether you have resorted to sleep training.
The doctor may also enquire about how you have baby-proofed your home.
At each appropriate visit the doctor will make sure that your child receives the vaccination he needs according to the South African Clinic and Immunisation Card (given to you at the birth of your baby after his first vaccination). Your doctor will also tell you about the possible side effects that your child may experience from the vaccination.
