Be very careful of administering medicine to break your child's poor sleep patterns. Light sleepers are often more prone to adverse effects of medication in any event. However, if you are quite desperate and run the risk of hurting your baby out of pure desperation, rather give medicine under professional advice. It might just help you to regain balance and start again.
Baby massage is an excellent therapy for restless sleepers. Use oils like chamomilla and lavender, diluted in carrier oils like grapeseed.
Homeopathic medicines can be safely used to help induce peaceful sleep. It is not that the answer should be sought in a bottle, but sometimes a natural helping hand can help to break the cycle of poor sleep. Rescue remedy is excellent if poor sleep follows a traumatic pregnancy and birth, if Mom is a very anxious or tense person, if there is stress in the home and if you feel you are not coping with parenthood. Both parents and babies can take this remedy. It will not have a drugging effect and will not make your baby sleep all day.
