Stimulating baby's development: Quit smoking

Sister Lilian's useful advice on how to help your baby reach her milestones.

Don’t smoke in pregnancy

Smoking in pregnancy has a wide range of negative effects to Baby’s progress, in the womb and after birth. Passive smoking has just as many negative effects. The blood vessels leading to the placenta are more likely to have abnormalities if you smoke, which means that the placenta is mostly thinner and more fragile – this is, of course, the baby’s life-support system, so oxygen and nutrients Baby receives, as well as the waste disposal that’s removed from Baby, are affected. Brain development relies on placental function to a great extent.
