Bedtime Tips

No matter the nature of your child, there are certain cornerstones to achieving a flexible yet workable sleep routine.
For babies who resist going to bed, try these tips, although I would encourage you to reserve this technique for toddlers especially:
- Evaluate and try to resolve undue stress in the home.
- Stick to your wind-down routine for the day's end. This is not an "I'll show you who's boss" technique, but a secure signal for your baby.
- Once it’s bedtime, put your little one to bed with a hug and goodnight kiss. Avoid further eye contact and conversation, and sit alongside the bed on a chair and read a book or magazine, as if you have nothing else to do. Play soothing music to yourself if you find this difficult to see through.
- If your baby protests, relax … soon she’ll see you’re not trying to escape and will settle down to sleep if you consistently do this each evening.
