Sister Lilian offers a guide to the different types of fevers and how to treat them.
If a baby convulses from fever, there’s not much a parent can or should do, apart from staying with him, making sure he can’t injure himself by falling against any dangerous objects, and instituting cooling measures, as soon as the convulsion is over. Most babies will go blue around the mouth and the nails while convulsing. This will pass once the convulsion is over. Little ones will appear both confused and very tired after such an episode. They should be checked to make sure nothing else caused the convulsions, and any underlying condition should be treated speedily. Febrile convulsions seldom have lasting negative effects, and most babies outgrow these by the age of four years when the temperature control system has matured.
