Group Three: Spasmodic colic
16:02 (GMT+2), Wed, 04 July 2012
Sister Lilian gives moms advice on how to cope with their crying, colicky babies.
This baby jerks while asleep, experiences twitches during the day and struggles with hiccups regularly. The muscles of his abdomen feel rigid during a crying attack and these spells have a predictable pattern, either after each feed or at the same time each day. Baby passes stools explosively, audible at quite a distance and posits feeds forcefully, especially straight after drinking.
Tips to help:
This colic is closest to true physical colic and tips are to relax muscle spasms.
• If baby hiccups in the womb, mom should take the tissue salt Mag phos regularly to help prevent colic in her baby
• Wind baby in the ‘Winner’s position!’ shown further on
• Take baby for a walk at that regular, difficult time of day, mostly early evening
• Cook the evening meal earlier in the day, not during baby’s difficult time, so that you can be more active with baby then
• Massage baby's tummy in a clockwise direction
• Massage the insteps of baby's feet with your thumbs
• Give baby the tissue salt Mag phos three times a day, or more often if necessary
